Doosan Enerbility announced on July 31 that it has been certified by Romania’s National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control (CNCAN) for equipment design, manufacture, sale and installation and services for equipment for large nuclear power plants and small modular reactors (SMRs) in Romania. Based on the certification, Doosan Enerbility will participate in the refurbishment of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 in Romania. In May, Doosan Enerbility signed a contract to manufacture and supply feeder pipes for the power plant The feeder pipe is a major facility of a pressurized heavy water reactor and passes coolant flows to regulate reactor temperature. An operation permit for Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 is scheduled to expire in 2026, so the plant is undergoing a facility upgrade for another 30 years of operation. The consortium of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Candu Energy, and Italy's Ansaldo Nuclear is pursuing the third phase of the upgrade project. Doosan Enerbility is also planning to participate in a Romanian SMR project led by US-based Nuscale Power. The client, Romania's Ro Power, is planning to build a 462-megawatt (MW) SMR-powered power plant at the site of a coal- fired power plant in the Doi§e§ti region. The company signed an FEED contract with Samsung C&T and US-based Fluor on April 24. Earlier, in April this year, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis visited Doosan Enerbility's headquarters in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province of Korea, to check the company's capabilities in manufacturing SMRs and the main units of large nuclear power plants.
